What is the difference between 300GSM, 450GSM and 600GSM carbon fiber?

GSM is fiber density — grams per square meter. Higher GSM means more fiber mass per unit area, higher tensile strength, and higher elastic modulus. 300GSM is the standard density for most residential repairs. 450GSM is an intermediate density available in 6-inch width with a higher elastic modulus of 255 GPa. 600GSM delivers the highest fiber mass in the same 6-inch footprint at 4,500 MPa tensile strength and 240 GPa modulus, for maximum load resistance where wall geometry limits strap width.

Is surface grinding mandatory before carbon fiber installation?

Yes. Paint, efflorescence, laitance, or dust creates a slip plane that causes debonding before the fiber engages load. Grind the full strap contact area to bare concrete with a diamond cup wheel and vacuum all dust. A strap bonded to a contaminated surface will not perform to rated properties regardless of GSM.

What is the maximum strap spacing for carbon fiber wall reinforcement?

Maximum 4 feet on center vertically or horizontally. Tighten to 2 to 3 feet for concentrated bowing, active seasonal movement, or high lateral soil pressure. Install on both wall faces at corners and adjacent to all openings.

Pre-application: Inject active cracks in poured concrete walls with epoxy — full cure before strapping. Re-tuckpoint block walls — minimum 7 days cure. Grind full strap contact area to bare concrete with diamond cup wheel; vacuum all dust. Carbon fiber stabilizes and prevents re-cracking — does not seal existing cracks.

Sequence: Mark locations → grind and vacuum → cut straps → mix epoxy 2:1 by volume → apply epoxy bed to wall and strap face → place strap → roll center-outward → trowel to full fabric saturation → re-roll → cure 24 hr minimum at 40°F / 4°C.

Spacing: 4 ft on center maximum — vertical or horizontal. 2–3 ft for concentrated bowing or active movement. Horizontal bridging above and below all openings. Both wall faces at all corners.

8" 300GSM — sound poured concrete, standard residential repair.
