How Much Wall Does the 60ft BigFoot Kit Cover?
The kit supplies 60ft of uncut 12-inch carbon fiber, cut to your own wall height. Straps install 4ft in from each corner, then every 4ft on-center. Because each strap runs floor to sill, your strap count depends on ceiling height:
- 8ft block walls: about 7 full-height straps

Why Block Walls Need the 12-Inch Strap
Concrete block and cinder block walls fail differently than poured concrete, and that difference is the whole reason this kit exists. A poured wall is solid through its full thickness and bends as one monolithic unit. A block wall is hollow — its strength depends entirely on the mortar joints between courses. When hydrostatic soil pressure and freeze-thaw cycles push on a block wall, it breaks at those joints, producing the horizontal and stair-step cracking that signals block failure.
Mortar joints have far lower pull-off strength than solid concrete, so the bond between strap and wall is the critical limit. A narrow strap concentrates the load onto a small patch of weak block and risks debonding before it ever stabilizes the wall. The 12-inch BigFoot strap spreads the same load across 50% more bonding area than an 8-inch strap, keeping the stress at the block face below the point where it lets go. On weak, weathered, or mortar-jointed walls, that extra width is the difference between a repair that holds and one that peels.
This is also why a wide 300GSM strap beats a narrow high-GSM one on block: the wall, not the fiber, is the weak point. Adding fiber density to a narrow strap does nothing if the bond to the block fails first. Spreading the load wider is what protects the bond. The unidirectional carbon fiber itself — 4,100 MPa tensile, third-party ASTM tested through our supplier — will outlast the block it is bonded to regardless of GSM.

Installation Steps
- Plan strap placement. Measure the wall and mark strap locations. Do not exceed 4 ft on-center spacing, starting 4ft from each corner. Always place straps on both sides of any window openings. Account for corners and obstructions.


- Re-point failed mortar joints first. On block walls, inspect every mortar joint in the strap path and re-tuckpoint any that are failed or crumbling before grinding. A strap bonded over a moving mortar joint bonds to something that will keep moving. This step is unique to block walls and is the most common reason a block repair fails.
- Prepare the wall surface. Using a hand grinder with the included 4.5 inch diamond cup wheel and a dust shroud with vacuum (rentable at most tool rental locations), grind a 13-inch wide path from the top of the wall to the floor at each strap location. This removes paint, efflorescence, and loose material for maximum epoxy bond.
- Vacuum thoroughly. Remove all dust from the ground areas. Dust will prevent the epoxy from bonding properly.
- Fill any cracks. Cracks at a strap location must be filled with epoxy paste or cement grout before applying the carbon fiber. The strap bonds to the surface — it cannot bridge voids beneath it.
- Apply epoxy to the wall. Mix a batch of StarTech Carbon Fiber Saturation Epoxy and apply to the wall at the strap location using the provided roller.
- Apply epoxy to the carbon fiber. Apply epoxy to the side of the strap that will bond to the wall.
- Place the strap. Press the epoxied carbon fiber strap firmly onto the epoxied wall. Use the concrete anchors to hold the strap in position during installation.
- Saturate and finish. Apply additional epoxy over the strap and use a trowel to force resin through the fabric, fully saturating all fibers. Move to the next strap location.
Tips for Carbon Fiber Block Wall Repair
1. For maximum benefit, strap a complete wall corner to corner rather than spot-repairing individual cracks.
2. Always strap both sides of every window opening — the opening creates a stress concentration in the wall.
3. Do not exceed 4 ft on-center spacing. Closer is better. If a window is 3 ft from a corner, place your first strap 3 ft from the corner beside the window.
4. Re-point failed mortar joints and fill cracks in the strap path before applying carbon fiber.
5. Cracks running under window openings can be addressed with a horizontal strap under the opening, overlapping the nearest vertical straps.
6. For stair-step cracks, apply two strap layers at the same location — one vertical and one horizontal — for maximum restraint in both directions.
7. Top-of-wall support is needed separately if the sill plate or floor joists are sliding inward. Standard hurricane ties at every joist or an under-mounted plank are better than metal top plates, which can split the sill under load. Optional top and bottom anchors are available for this kit.
8. For corner repair, install straps horizontally on the exterior at 2 to 4 ft spacing.
Common Questions About 12-Inch Carbon Fiber Block Wall Repair
When do I need 12-inch straps instead of 8-inch?
Use 12-inch straps for CMU block and cinder block walls, and for weak or weathered concrete. Block walls are hollow and fail at the mortar joints, so the wider strap is needed to spread the load across more of the weak joint system. For sound poured concrete walls, the 8-inch kit is the correct choice because poured concrete is solid through its full thickness.
What causes a block wall to bow?

Do block walls need top and bottom anchors?
